There is a new course on using Tableau at coursera.org, after signing up for the classes you get access to Tableau desktop for 6 months free. Paying 999 USD just to learn how to use that software is just ridiculous.
All you need to do is:
1. Go to coursera.org and join this course (audit only – free): https://www.coursera.org/learn/analytics-tableau/
2. Once enrolled go to week 2 of the course
3. Click on “Written instructions to install Tableau desktop”
4. Follow the instructions
And that’s it. I strongly encourage everyone to actually go through the course, as it is very well done, especially considering that it’s applied to a real world data set, not focused solely on Tableau’s features.
